2023 Even Keel Pinot Gris Mornington – The team over at Polperro have created this exceptional little label. They grow, make and farm their vineyards using a philosophy of sustainability and regenerative agriculture, applying a mix of biological, bio-dynamic and organic practices.
Fruit for this wine is a mix of Bayview in Main Ridge, Bluestone estate in Merricks North and Talland Hill new block in Red Hill. Where its a mix of famed clones from Alsace, Friuli and Pfalz in Germany.
First two vineyards of Merricks North and Talland Hill new block were picked early to maintain fresh acidity. Whilst the up the hill vineyard of Bayview was left longer on the vine to produce riper and bolder flavours.
A young and vibrant Pinot Gris. White florals, citrus pollen, pear, nashi and lemongrass on the nose. The palate is compact and complex initially then opens up to something textural, mineral and saline. Fresh citrus, pear, ginger spice and hints of lemongrass flow over the palate, finishing with mineral freshness.
