2020 Shut The Gate The Forager Shiraz Clare Valley – Shut The Gate is a small wine producer that’s passionate about single site and best of region grape varieties. While they have lots of different wine batches they’re all tiny quantities and thy don’t put their label on a bottle if it doesn’t make the cut. They call the Clare Valley home and spend the majority of their life there but they also have a foot in the Snowy Mountains NSW chasing cool climate grapes as well, the best of both worlds really.
The Castine Family vineyard is located at the warmer southern end of Watervale – a sub region of the Clare Valley. The resulting Shiraz is a little riper and richer then some of the cooler areas of Clare. Picked ripe and full of flavour then matured for 15 months in 1 -2 year old French oak. Ripe rich plummy and dark chocolate flavours wrapped in firm tannins.
This vintage should be a good one to put away for up to 6-8 years. Amazing value and sure to be snapped up quickly.
