2023 Saint & Scholar Pinot Gris Adelaide Hills – Pinot Gris is a frightening grape. It’s meant to be white, but is black. It’s meant to be delicate and easing drinking but places many barriers in the way of that. It’s a challenge to the winemaker, but its great feature is that it is fun to grow.
Before they start to make this wine they have to decide which style we’re going to follow! This variety can go in two very distinct directions. Thankfully both the Saint and the Scholar agree on the same style! Both like the wine to have more texture, expression and mouth feel so they have opted for the French style of Gris that is slightly riper.
The aroma is so inviting. Upfront pear and kiwi fruit – giving a rich and slightly tropical overtone, with layers of honey dew. The palate has a lovely texture, what you would expect from a wine style such as this. Complex layers of pear, honey dew melon and lovely kiwi fruit.
