2021 Yeringberg Cabernets Yarra Valley

From: $95.00

2021 Yeringberg Cabernets Yarra Valley – Yeringberg makes wines from the low-yielding vines re-established on the heart of what was one of the most famous vineyards of the nineteenth century.

161 years young. That sums up Yeringberg perfectly. In the property’s 161st year, still in the same hands after all this time. 161 years as a wine grower puts them in rare air – only Yalumba comes to mind that can boast similar. However, at this ‘age’, to be at the peak of their powers now really is something else.

2021 will be one of the Yarra Valley vintages that we will still be talking about and enjoying the wines in 20 years’ time. Despite the very wet start during winter and spring, the growing season was delightfully uneventful. Flowering went well, and the ripening season after the January rain was long, dry and slow. This enabled Yeringberg to make wines with lower alcohols, and lovely ripe fruit and tannins.

Cabernet Sauvignon 58%, Merlot 14%, Malbec 14%, Petit Verdot 9% and Cabernet Franc 5%. The 2021 edition of this Bordeaux blend has just about everything in just the right measure – elegance, structure, depth, complexity – and most of all, it’s wine to be enjoyed, today, tomorrow and for as long as you might choose to keep a bottle. On the nose, cool, pure and inviting aromas of blackcurrant, violet, plum and black olive, merge with notes of tobacco leaf, cedar, mint and graphite. The palate, initially fine, savoury and restrained, builds depth and richness, with wonderfully fine but firm tannins, silky, supple generosity, and an understated power and breadth that all comes together on the effortless, but imposing finish. Drink now, and well into the future.
