2021 Cavedon Gewurztraminer King Valley – Cavedon wines are a limited selection of cool climate, single-vineyard wines from a third generation vineyard in the King Valley. Gabe O’Brien started handcrafting small batches of wine, after he and his wife Pia took over the vineyard from his father-in-law and second generation vigneron, Dino Cavedon. The wines are a pure expression of their vineyard, with a focus on experimenting with the otherwise traditional varieties and methods of the region.
These little blush-skinned grapes have been growing here for two decades and thrive in our cool climate, helping along the otherwise hard-to-get balance of acidity in the wine.
Gewurztraminer (Geh-vurtz-tra-meen-er, or just ‘tra-meen-er’). One of those greatly undiscovered and totally underrated varieties in Australia. This one is always a crowd pleaser (even for the avid red drinker) and a flavour bomb of fruit. Textural, mid weight, aromatic and made to be dry. Think vibrant tropical fruit, lychees & Turkish delight, which lingers long after the first sip.
