2019 Tyrrell’s Old Hut Vineyard Shiraz Hunter Valley – The Old Hut vineyard is situated right next to 4 Acres. It was planted in 2003 with cuttings from the 4 Acres vines and features the same soils, which are ideal for growing super-premium Hunter Valley Shiraz grapes.
Vintage 2019 was a spectacular Shiraz vintage in the Hunter Valley. Dry, warm conditions that were similar to 2003 meant cropping levels were smaller than average and produced wines of great concentration and length of flavour. 2018 was one of the earliest Shiraz harvests they have seen, starting on January 29.
In the early hours of the morning on 3 February, when the fruit was at its coldest, the grapes were harvested by machine before fermentation took place in stainless-steel tanks. After fermentation, the wine was matured in older French-oak puncheons (500L) for 15 months.
An enticing nose of red berry fruits and spice. The palate is quite similar in style to that of the 4 Acres in the sense that it is medium-bodied and fruit driven, with fine tannin, a soft acid structure and no influence of new oak.
