The iconic, world-renowned Yarra Valley wine region is located just over an hour’s drive east of Melbourne. The Yarra Valley’s crisp climate, diverse soil types and sloping mountains provide well-drained, sunny conditions for optimal grape and fruit growing(*2).

Tours that frequently travel through the area visiting the region’s most iconic cellar doors always stop by Yarra Yering. Read on to find out why you need to get your hands on the newly released 2017 Dry Red Wine No.1.

Yarra Yering Winemaker of the Year

Established in 1969, Yarra Yering is one of the oldest vineyards in the region. Some of the original vines planted by Yarra Yering founder, Dr Bailey Carrodus still remain on the 28-hectare estate(*2).

Head winemaker, Sarah Crowe was recently awarded winemaker of the year 2017 by James Halliday(*3). Crowe has horticulture, viticulture and vintner experience stretching from the Hunter Valley to the pinot noir vineyards of Oregon, and much more.

Soon after Crowe’s arrival to the Yarra Valley, she was turning heads by mixing pinot noir and shiraz. It hadn’t been done before, and it wouldn’t be forgotten. The blend attracted industry attention and rave reviews(*3).

New Release – Yarra Yering 2017 Dry Red No.1

The 2017 vintage is a Bordeaux style blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, petit Verdot and malbec. Heralding from a cool climate, it is a medium-bodied style wine, with good length, and is quite complex.

Yara Yering describes the combination of power and subtleties in this vintage as “the iron fist in a velvet glove”(*4).

Blend: Typical of Bordeaux, France, this blend is made up of 70% Cabernet sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 8% Malbec and 4% Petit Verdot.

Bouquet: There’s a compelling mix of dark berry fruits, interwoven herbaceousness and a touch of spice.

Maturation: Yarra Yering’s Dry Red Wine No.1 has the pedigree to be aged for 20 or more years and is a beautiful drop to taste in its youth.

The 2017 Dry Red Wine No.1 is definitely a wine to try and lay down for as long as you can but can drink well young.
