Balgownie Sparkling Shiraz NV Bendigo – The fruit was hand harvested and fermented in open vats with daily hand plunging. A brief post fermentation maceration was carried out to enhance the integration of fine tannins. The wine was aged in a combination of seasoned French oak barrels and a 10% addition of base wine from the 2013 vintage was added for complexity.
Deep, bright red/purple colour. Fragrant berry aromas suggest raspberry, cassis, and mulberry, laced with an array of spices. The aromas are lifted by some fancy oak. Incredibly attractive. The palate is full-bodied and laden with tannin, which adds firmness, but the wine is concentrated and deep, and everything is in superb balance. Long, long carry and a touch of elegance. A striking shiraz bubbly.
Will suit an array of cuisines from Chinese to Mexican.
