2021 Vanguardist Grenache McLaren Vale – The Vanguardist range represents the epitome of what they are about. The Grenache that produces this wine comes from an outstanding vineyard in Blewitt Springs. A hidden gem of sorts, the high ‘Silver Sands’ vineyard was planted by Robert Rende and his father Michael some 50+ years ago. Vintage 2021, our seventh release of this single site wine, will surely go down in history as one of the greats for many regions in South Australia. This is especially true for Grenache in Blewitt Springs. Moderate temperatures, rainfall and ripening season for some of our later picks was ideal.
Elevage took place for 16 months in 22HL Slavonian oak foudre. These are manufactured by Garbellotto in Northern Italy. This wine was bottled without fining or filtration.
Medium bodied style, lots of red berry goodness – strawberries and raspberries, nice amount of herbs in the mix too. Tannins are fine and guide the wine. Minerally/stony feel. Long and engaging finish. Just excellent.
