2022 Chaffey Bros Wine Co Not Your Grandma’s Rose Barossa – Chaffey Bros is brothers-in-law Daniel Chaffey Hartwig & Theo Engela: part perfumiers; part historians; and part mad scientists. They craft their handmade wines from a number of epic low-yielding vineyards nestled among the pristine Barossa & Eden Valleys in South Australia. They are now joined by young gun winemaker Huon Fechner! Their wine philosophy is ‘New Wave Barossa’… Soil up. Aromatic. Textural. Unadulterated.
Not Your Grandma’s Rosé is made as a true Rosé (picked earlier than typical red wine). 65% of the blend is old vine Grenache from the Lyndoch foothills and from Stockwell, which is co-fermented with 25% of old vine Mourvèdre also from the Lyndoch region. The remaining 10% is an aromatic blend of Riesling, Gewürtztraminer, Kerner from the Northern Eden Valley, which emphasises the strawberry, musk and turkish delight aromas. Early picking allows for a textural mouthfeel, luminous rose-diamond colour and crisp natural acidity giving great length. Grenache contributes the red berry and strawberry palate with Mourvèdre adding structure and lingering spice.
