2020 Two Hands Angels Share Shiraz McLaren Vale – For many, the Picture Series is the introduction to Two Hands, so their first mission is to over deliver on quality. The winemaking technique and effort that goes into making a Gnarly Dudes or Angels’ Share is no different to the higher tiers of the portfolio, so these are still serious wines, with a focus on purity of fruit and sensory pleasure. They get to play with different varietals and regions here, weird and wonderful at times, and each new release gives them the chance to create a new label. Michael is the ideas man when it comes to the names, coming up with the catchy references and back stories that add to the appeal of drinking the Picture Series.
Demonstrating a level of restraint for a McLaren Vale red, this Shiraz provides sweet blue fruit notes of fresh blueberry, juniper and mulberry bracketed by a cleansing pop of acidity and savoury tannin. The sweet fruit entry gently yields to savoury notes of dried bay leaf, briar, dried herbs and dried rose petals. A wine of sneaky length that catches you off-guard, it slowly builds across the palate. The late palate is puncuated by notes of ash and wild game.
The aim for these wines are to bring a smile to your face when you pick up the bottle, reminding you that wines should be approachable and of course… fun.
