2020 Mr Mick Riesling Clare Valley – Although the beginning of the 2020 growing season was quite hot, and remained very dry throughout summer, the months of January, February and March 2020 were cooler than the long-term average, leading to higher than normal natural acidity retention in the fruit at harvest. The winemakers commented that; “the 2020 wines generally have a robust natural acid backbone which will see them age well in coming years. The Rieslings in particular have this ‘uniquely Clare’ acidity, showing beautiful juicy, mouth-watering varietal flavour”.
Riesling grapes were harvested at their peak flavour maturity from vineyards through the central and southern Clare Valley. After de-stemming, and must chilling, juice was separated from skins, clarified and fermented for 14 days. The use of ‘free-run’ juice only ensures continuation of the true Mr Mick style- crisp, pure and fruit driven.
This wine has lemon and lime juice and orange blossom aromas and flavours, made in the classic Australian style with just a touch of residual sweetness to balance the crisp natural Clare Valley acidity. It is a pristine wine with generous length of fruit flavour; a great example which reflects a stunning 2020 vintage with dry, cool ripening conditions.
It is a great wine just to sit, sip and enjoy, or partner with any South Aussie seafood.
