2022 La Maschera Pinot Grigio Limestone Coast – The Carnival of Venice began in the 12th century – a celebration of victory against the Patriarch of Aquileia. Each year San Marco Square would fill with people dancing and feasting behind elaborate and exotic masks, adding to the mystique of the Carnival. And so La Maschera (the mask) was born. Protected from the harsh northern European climate by the Alps, these cooler climes are somewhat similar to the coastal maritime regions of the Limestone Coast where the grapes for this wine were harvested.
Expect notes of Jasmine, wild flowers and a hint of red apple, cardamom and cashew too. The palate has a mix of fresh flowers with honeydew melon, sweet cinnamon stick and crunchy pear acidity.
Enjoy over the next couple of years. Pair with fresh Asian seafood dishes. The acidity will balance salty flavours.
