2020 Bindi Dixon Pinot Noir Macedon Ranges

From: $55.00

2020 Bindi Dixon Pinot Noir Macedon Ranges – ‘Bindi’, 50 kilometres north-west of Melbourne in the Macedon Ranges, is the family property of the Dhillon family. Originally purchased in the 1950s as part of the larger grazing farm ‘Bundaleer’, ‘Bindi’ is a 170 hectare farm of which 7 hectares are planted to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Fifteen hectares are dedicated to managed plantation eucalypts for high grade furniture timber whilst the remainder of the land is maintained as remnant bush land and important indigenous grasslands.

The Bindi vineyard is the fundamental focus of their endeavors. Their vineyard and winemaking philosophy is to seek balance and purity in the expression of their various individual vineyard sites and this philosophy is applied to farming and conservation at ‘Bindi’; the preservation of the natural harmony.

The 2020 Dixon spent 11 months in barrel and was bottled in early March. This is a deep and layered Dixon, a composition from the original 1988 planting and the 2001 Kaye vineyard. It is very youthful and ideally needs six to twelve months bottle age. At this point it is most delicious on the second and third days after opening. There are layers of red and dark berries intermixed with spices, earth and flint. There are delicious floral and undergrowth nuances that rise with breathing. The palate is powerful and full with ripe, smooth tannins and gentle acidity keeping the fruit bright and the palate clean and balanced. The first wine from these areas was in 2004 and it and the subsequent wines are all delicious to drink today. So, when is best to drink this wine? A glass today, two tomorrow and two the next day. Or from mid 2021 and beyond.
