2019 Traviarti Rosso Beechworth – Traviarti have long shared a wine interest with their attention more often than not grasped by structure. It is no coincidence that this is reflected in the wines they choose to make. Nebbiolo, Barbera and Tempranillo the noble red grapes of Italy and Spain. Together with Beechworth’s most renowned variety Chardonnay they all have an ideal home here. Traviarti aspire to wines that are moreish, complex, textured and balanced.
In 2018 Traviarti planted a new vineyard on the Beechworth Wangaratta Rd, a venture with a friend which has become their Rosso block of 80% Nebbiolo and 20% Barbera. This will also be their ongoing source of Chardonnay and the potential of this site is very exciting.
The 2019 is the first vintage that will see no portion of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine itself is closer to the style Simon is working towards, now comprising 65% Nebbiolo and 35% Barbera. The wine is a little lighter on its feet showing a little more ’Nebbiolo palate’ while still being open and soft. The cooler ripening season has really let the wine hit the balance of savoury and fruitfulness.
For us this is ideal for early drinking and ready for the table now!
