2019 Juniper Crossing Chardonnay Margaret River – Juniper Estate is a producer of premium wines in Wilyabrup, the heart of the remote, environmentally pristine Margaret River winegrowing area lying in the south west corner of Australia about 270km south of the state capital, Perth. When the vineyard was planted in 1973 (under its original guise of Wright’s), it was one of only six Margaret River wine producers (along with Vasse Felix, Cape Mentelle, Cullen, Moss Wood and Woodlands); by contrast, today the region boasts in excess of 200 vineyards. No sub-region has been historically more important to the success of Margaret River than Wilyabrup, where the first vineyards were planted and wineries built and which continues to be home to a disproportionately large number of famous, usually small, vineyards.
From a cool vintage where picking was around 3 weeks later than the norm. Sourced from their Karridale vineyard in southern Margaret River. Predominately the Gingin clone (44%) & clone 95 (35%), the balance being clone 1 (15%) and clone 76 (6%). Following fermentation the wine was blended after 9 months barrel maturation, and then further aged on lees in tank for another 6 months.
Floral citrus, grapefruit, lime, spiced pear, green apple, melon fruit aromas with barrel ferment characters of brioche, cashew and a hint of smoky vanilla bean. The palate is fine with a silky mouth feel, fresh citrus flavours and acidity along with subtle oak influence of almond meal, sourdough and spice with clean long finish.
