2021 Head Wines Old Vine Shiraz Barossa Valley – Alex Head’s wines are powerfully individual, intriguing, hard to categorise, these are drawn from signature vineyards and show Alex Head at his most uncompromising; hands-on, bold and risk-taking. Most of all though, they are pure expressions of their Barossa and Eden Valley home.
Very small parcels of fruit from vineyards up to 100 years old are hand-picked, fermented with some whole-bunches and blended to make this traditional Barossan wine. Racked once during elevage of 12 months in larger barrels (some new) and always with a small addition of Old Vine Grenache for balance. Showing all the richness of fruit you would expect from Barossan Shiraz at its best.
A medium bodied style of Shiraz full of opulent dark berry fruits, subtle oak complexity, with a touch of herbs and spice. Excellent mouth-fill, silky tannins and sensational length. A well rounded easy drinking winner here.
