2021 Dandelion Vineyards Pride of the Fleurieu Peninsula Cabernet Sauvignon

From: $19.99

2021 Dandelion Vineyards Pride of the Fleurieu Peninsula Cabernet Sauvignon – This Pride of the Fleurieu Cabernet was grown in the family’s pride and joy, overlooking the Finniss River wetlands, Tony Brooks and Prof. Barbara Santich’s dry grown Stranger’s Reach vineyard cooled by the Great Southern Ocean and Lake Alexandrina where low rainfall and deep alluvial soils encourage Cabernet to populate or perish.

Traces of distant dark chocolate flirt around an expanding aroma of blackberry and freshly bottled Cassis. Spearmint. Folds of gentle menthol and Summer’s early tomato foliage. Bay leaf and black pepper freshly milled. Older French Oak’s bouquet is sewn into a hidden jacket pocket.

Long and strong and upright with cabernet sauvignon’s full sail on show. Sour blackberry and bright mulberry; textural and firm tannins that seem to cry out “Scotch Fillet!”. More late night Officers’ Mess than midday Parade Ground. Clean, clear and lingering acidity that speaks in unison with the innate tannins – “Take me to your cellar…”.

Five years? Ten? Tomorrow? The wine is approachable and enjoyable now. It has a deft weight, too, which helps it find happiness with everything from roasted vegetables to that forever friend, Scotch Fillet, barbecued over wood embers and served with nothing more than cutlery, napery and mustard. Chips and salad optional.
