2019 Chatto Marion’s Pinot Noir Tasmania – The 2019 vintage for Chatto is now here, sadly with the bushfires in 2019 they lost their Isle, Huon Valley and Seven Inch harvest due to the smoke, but… This year marks the inaugural release of three new Chatto Pinot Noirs – Marion’s, Bird and Tassie Blend.
Fruit for each of these wines was handpicked, hand sorted, destemmed with a percentage of whole bunch – Marion’s 20%, Bird 10% and Tassie Blend 15%. A mix of new and old oak for 10 months.
20 years since Jim did his first harvest in the Tamar Valley and Chatto are thrilled to be able to bring this wine to you – Marion’s vineyard was planted in the West Tamar at Deviot in 1979 (one of the oldest plantings in Tasmania). After losing their Isle vineyard crop to smoke taint in 2019 Marion and her daughter Cynthea reached out and offered them some of their fruit. This turn of events has enabled Chatto to do something more than they envisioned with their brand.
A dark berry fruited, brooding and muscular style. Chatto’s Marion’s reflects the nature of this wonderful site and the structure West Tamar Pinot is known for, whilst holding true to the Chatto house style of intensity over concentration and natural balance.
