2020 Yarra Yering Dry Red Wine No. 2 Yarra Valley

From: $115.00

2020 Yarra Yering Dry Red Wine No. 2 Yarra Valley – Planted in 1969, the unirrigated vines at their Yarra Valley vineyard produce elegant, complex and powerful wines. Approachable as young wines, they have the ability to develop in the bottle for many years. Yarra Yering is one of Australia’s most iconic wineries with an outstanding international reputation.

At the helm of one of the Yarra Valley’s best wineries is Sarah Crowe. In August, 2016 Sarah was awarded one of the wine industry’s highest honours, being named by James Halliday as Winemaker of the Year 2017 at the Halliday Wine Companion Awards.

Shiraz 96%, Mataro 3%, Viognier 1% and Marsanne 1%. Original 1969 plantings of Shiraz and Marsanne with additional Shiraz, Mataro & Viognier drawn from vines planted from 1984 to 1995.

A complex and layered wine; sweet and savoury all at once. The fragrance is melting pot of violets, plums, savoury spices and a whiff of bramble. Moderate in weight; the plum fruits come in all colours dialling up the flavour interest. There is cigar box and cardamom spice lending intrigue. Firm yet fine tannins ably support the fruit and texture drive the palate. This one is hard to put in a box, there is so much to love.

This fragrant style is approachable as a young wine but with some bottle maturation will evolve into a beautifully complex wine. This blend has a track record thus it will continue to evolve for a further 20+ years under suitable cellaring conditions should you want to cellar it for an extended period.
