2018 Eperosa Elevation Shiraz Barossa Valley

From: $45.00

2018 Eperosa Elevation Shiraz Barossa Valley – 100% Shiraz – 60% Magnolia Vineyard, Vine Vale & 40% Krondorf Vineyard, Krondorf.

The Magnolia Shiraz component is from four small Shiraz blocks on our Magnolia Road Vineyard planted in 1965 (%), 1996 (%), 1896 (%) and 2010 (%). All four blocks were dry grown on deep alluvial granitic sands at an elevation ranging between 305 and 330 metres. The blocks are farmed organically and the wine aged in French oak hogsheads for 20 months.

The Krondorf Shiraz component is from vines grown on a sandy loam over heavy red clay over calcareous marl akin to the classic ‘Terra Rossa’ soil type. This soil type is mineral rich with the capacity to store large volumes of soil moisture under tension for the vines to use through the summer period. These soils are a key factor to the brilliance and vitality of the fruit and wine it produces. The block is farmed organically and the wine aged in French oak hogsheads for 20 months.

The 2018 Elevation Barossa Valley is a composite blend of these two estate vineyards.  The Magnolia vineyard and its sands provide the finer red fruit and deftly fine tannins while Krondorf and its clay and calcare provide the body and structure.

Aromas of blood plum, ferrous/iron, violets and char.  The fruit is vivacious with its bright red tones supported by undertones of earth and minerals.  The palate is remarkably fresh and nimble but glides into a firm core of fruit and accentuated by fine tannins that hold structure and length.  While still very much in its youth it has the natural balance and complexity to drink young or old.
