2019 Charles Melton The Kirche Shiraz Cabernet Barossa Valley – Shares many of the characteristics of the Father in Law, but with a slightly higher tone, or perhaps leafier, racier aromatic because of the Cabernet component.
The Kirche is Charles Melton’s homage to the great Australian Shiraz/Cabernet style. Deep delicious colour. Bright crimson. Highly perfumed upon first look. A very lifted sweet nose, but again as is always the case with this block, the Cabernet (34%) component is highly assertive. A very smooth round palate, with lovely plush mid palate weight. Again strongly varietal flavours evident on the palate. Lovely package. I am hesitant to say pretty, because it underplays the complexity of the wine. But very fragrant.
Further time in the cellar of 10 years or more will enhance these qualities. A must have for any lover of Barossa Valley wines!
