2017 Torzi Matthews 1903 Old Vines GSM of Domenico Martino Barossa Valley – The fruit for this wine is sourced from an old single vineyard that Torzi Matthews have been caring for the past 10 years which is owned by Italian migrant Domenico Martino from Campania since 1966 and prior to him planted in 1903 by one of the early Barossa Valley settlers Bill Hoffmann.
The blend is made up of 70% Grenache, 20% Shiraz & 10% Mataro coming from vines which are 116 years old. The vineyard practices family traditional responsible farming methods with a diet of composts, native grasses & flora as ground cover, low water input and natural sprays for diseases.
Hand picked and co fermented with 25% whole bunch, fermented naturally, basket pressed to barrel and bottled unfiltered. Expect Plum, black fruits and herb aromas with delicious plump and round palate showing good plummy, earthern and spicy fruit sweetness with good fine tannin structure.
A fair bit different from your average GSM but in the best way possible!
