2016 Oddero Barolo Villero Italy – Poderi e Cantine Oddero is a historical brand among Barolo producers. The winery’s roots go back to the end of the 18th century when their ancestors began to make wine under their own name. The wine cellars, located in the frazione Santa Maria of La Morra, are raised up on a natural terrace and overlook the hills of the Langhe. Immersed in a sea of beautifully tended vineyards, their winery cultivates 35 hectares of the best cru of the Langhe and Asti territories to make some of Piedmont’s most renown wines. Traditional knowledge and modern production techniques. Tenacity, patience, and respect for their territory and its raw materials. Making wine means attending to every last detail, from winter to spring pruning, from thinning to harvest, from pressing to fermentation and a long aging time. Quality reveals itself in the details.
100% Nebbiolo. The 53 year old vineyard is located in Castiglione Falletto, Plot 7, Sub-plot 132 Characteristics: 240 meters above sea level, southeastern exposure, 2.7 x 0.9 meters spacing, 4,300 vines/hectare density, Guyot upward-trained vertical-trellised training system. 3800-4000 bottles made.
Scrupulous vine growing. Careful manual selection of grapes, both in the vineyards and in the cellar by means of conveyor belt. Gentle de-stemming and pressing. Fermentation and maceration for approximately 25 days. The wine is aged in 40hl oak barrels for 30 months. The wine is bottled at the end of summer and ages for another year in the bottle before being sold.
A strong and well-rounded wine, Barolo Villero reflects a soil richer in clay and limestone than that of Rocche di Castiglione, located in the same town. The bouquet offers intriguing and dense scents of violet, red fruits, cocoa and liquorice. The complex tannic texture displays a delicate sweet finish. To round off the wine – powerful, complex and incredible tannin structure.
