2015 Rolf Binder Hanisch Shiraz Barossa Valley – The Hanisch Shiraz is the flagship wine from Rolf Binder. Comprising 100% Shiraz grown in the Chri-Ro vineyard, the ‘Hanisch’ is named after the original owner of the vineyard, ‘Punch’ Hanisch. This special vineyard was purchased in 1968, then planted to vines in 1972 by Rolf and his father. By the mid 1980s, an 8-row section was recognised for intensely expressive Shiraz of intense aromas, deep colour and flavour. The first Shiraz from this vineyard was bottled in 1988 as the ‘Long Rows’ Shiraz.
A wine where absolutely no compromise is made – in fruit quality, oak quality, or in viticultural practices. The winemaking remains a testament to this great wine. The Barossa is, of course, famous for Shiraz and the Hanisch sits amongst the classic wines from this region and has a for many years been rated on Langton’s Classification of Australia’s finest wines.
Complex flavours abound in this full-bodied wine with firm tannins, and a long lingering finish.
An excellent wine for aging 10-20 years, the 2015 can easily be enjoyed to 2035.
