2015 Huia Chardonnay Marlborough – Claire and Mike are strong believers in a natural approach to winemaking. They have endeavoured to become more and more in tune with the environment around them. Working in harmony with, and giving something back to, the countryside that helps them make their wine.
They have embarked on an organic journey, which has resulted in following and committing to an organic approach and vision. This has been taken further by embracing the bio-dynamic world to complete their journey of working in partnership with the countryside around them.
The vineyard minimises artificial inputs and is reliant on natural practices. Wildflowers grow in the understory, sheep wander through the vines and chickens free roam to provide eggs. Bees pollinate wildflowers and provide beautiful honey, olive trees are planted on the borders and make delicious olive oil. In the midst of all this, the grapes ripen beautifully on one of Marlborough’s warmest and most prestigious sites.
Now 6 years old this Chardonnay is really starting to hit its drinking window. On the nose ripe peach and pear that combines with lifted vanilla pod. The palate has mixed rich stone and citrus fruit with a silky creamy texture. Excellent oak integration with a soft acid line.
This wine is delicious with chargrilled salmon, lobster or crayfish, roasted or baked chicken, pasta in cream sauces, mature brie and other soft cheeses and well, pretty much most foods because you know – chardonnay rules. It’s a dry one so remember to eat your fat while drinking this beauty.
