2022 Eperosa Stonegarden 1858 Grenache Eden Valley – The Stonegarden Grenache is from one of the oldest vineyards in Australia dating back to 1858. From 1858 to 1962 the winery and vineyard was established by David Randall of Glen Para 3.3km East of the township of Springton. By 1873 there were 23Ha of vineyard on the property. The winery is now heritage listed and still has 6 of the original fortified vats of some 10,000L sitting in the arches of it’s sawtooth roof.
While predominantly Grenache the block also contains Mataro, Shiraz and Malbec. The final blend ends up being 95% Grenache, 3% Mataro and 2% Shiraz.
Deep, powerful brambly red currant fruits. Tight, structural, powerful mid palate of voluminous garnet red fruits over wet stone and liquorice. Long tea leaf fine tannin finish.
Stonegarden is truly one of the great vineyards in Australia producing a wine that has brilliance, power, balance and intrigue.
