2018 Crawford River Reserve Riesling Crawford River – There is, simultaneously, a youthful and mature element to this wine which is immediately present. A toasted, nutty element, often synonymous with the evolution of Crawford River Rieslings, adds great depth and complexity. These notes are complimented with bright citrus, creating a lightness to the concentrated fruit profile. Texture is a defining feature throughout the wine, along with the purity of fruit and persistence that are hallmarks of these very special wines.
Please also note this is not a re-release wine. It is not made every year and was first made in 1999. The RESERVE Riesling is made from a small selection of rows that lie along an ironstone ridge amongst their 1975/76 plantings. These vines show a specific flavour profile which is subtle, yet intensely structured and quite distinctive. The fruit is 100% whole bunch pressed and fermented in stainless steel. Only made in years when quantity is sufficient, and quality is exceptional. When blending, they choose not to make this wine if its omission from their ‘Estate’ Riesling blend compromises quality.
