2014 Mount Eyre Vineyards Three Ponds Shiraz Hunter Valley – The Three Ponds vineyard lies on the sandy loam river flats of Monkey Place Creek. Planted in 1970 by Neil Grosser, it is still carefully managed by Neil and his son David today. The name ‘Three Ponds’ originates from their three year-old son, Theodore; he thought the three dams on their family vineyard were ponds when he saw ducks swimming on them one afternoon.
A classic expression of Hunter Shiraz at its best! Vintage 2014 provided exceptional ripening conditions, leading to both complexity and concentration of flavours. Aged in new and old French hogsheads and barriques. A rich palate of smooth red and black berry fruits combined with savoury spice characters and lengthy supple tannins.
With 7 years bottle age already this wine is drinking exceptionally well but can still be laid down for many years to come. Try matching with anything from the BBQ this Summer or some tasty cheeses.
