The Margaret River Wine Region and Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay

Located in one of the most southwestern areas of mainland Australia is the world-renowned Margaret River region. According to Simone Furlong and Denis Horgan of the Leeuwin estate(*1), the mid-1970s marked the first plantings of chardonnay in the Margaret River region. The land of the Margaret River has itself been aged for eons. It is rich in iron, lime and sand with a clay subsoil.

The Mediterranean climate is bolstered by ocean shores which envelope the region on three sides. The fruit matures slowly, thus, allowing the winemakers to achieve the perfect balance each season(*1).

Margaret River is a maritime region, and the chardonnay doesn’t disappoint when paired with seafood. It is as if the winery was destined for the Margaret River. Perfect climate, soil and local seafood.

Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay Review

The Art Series is known to drink quite well at a young age. They benefit greatly after about ten years in the cellar. Stock up and get ready to enjoy the development of the flavours of the Leeuwin Estate.

Flavours: The Chardonnay shows flavours of stone fruits, pear, citrus and a good oak balance.

Bouquet: Interwoven florals and spice. The strength and purity of the ripe fruits used are reminiscent of a Tahitian beach.

An elegant and sophisticated chardonnay with great length and good acid drive.

The art of winemaking, decadent food, music, contemporary artists, Australian culture and climate culminate in the Margaret River region.
