Mudgee and Orange, NSW

Separated by a scenic two-hour drive are the high-altitude wine growing regions of Mudgee and Orange. Gilbert Family Wines work across these two areas to cultivate the very best in cool-climate wines(*1,2). The Gilbert wineries extend over the NSW border as well – to the Eden Valley in SA.

Orange (Mt Canabolas and Nashdale)

Sitting at the highest altitude growing region in Australia is Orange. Gilbert’s vineyards sit at an incredible height of 600 to 1100 metres above sea level(*2). As a result, they experience long, cool growing periods that give the fruit plenty of time to develop.

Mudgee (Apple Tree Flat)

Apple Tree Flat in Mudgee is also a high-altitude site sitting at 520 meters above sea level. The vines grow in a rich clay loam soil enriched by shattered rock and layers of quartz deep underground(*2).

Not many wineries in Australia are led by fifth and sixth generation winemakers. Gilbert Family Wines is a family affair with father, teacher and mentor, Simon Gilbert leading the way. Standing proudly next to him is another exceptional winemaker, and his son, Will Gilbert. The Gilbert family’s long heritage was born in 1839 in the Eden Valley, SA(*3). Simon and Will endeavour to create wines to share with friends and family and which are easily paired with food(*4).
