Bleasdale Sparkling Shiraz NV – Pott’s Family, Langhorne Creek

This non-vintage comes from the very first winery established in Langhorne Creek(*2). In 1853, the Pott’s family started producing Shiraz that would later become world-renowned. This is a great entry point if you are just starting to look at Sparkling Reds(*1). 

Aroma: Voluptuous dark berries and sweet plum(*3).
Palate: Full-bodied and velvety smooth.
Finish: Nice long finish.
Price: Sensational value from $19.99 per bottle – or the half-sized bottle from $11.99(*1,3).

2019 Majella Sparkling Shiraz, Coonawarra

This full-flavoured, ruby-tinted vintage is not as jammy as Bleasdale’s (or Mollydooker’s) Sparkling Shiraz(*1). As a point of difference, a tiny amount of vintage port is added as the final touch(*4).

Aroma: Freshly picked raspberry, plum and blackberry(*4).
Palate: Quite dry and particularly complex in the middle palate with layers of dark fruits and spices(*1,4,5).
Finish: Smooth and gentle(*4).

2019 Mollydooker ‘Miss Molly’ and Spinifex ‘Louis’ NV Sparkling Shiraz

2019 Mollydooker ‘Miss Molly’ Sparkling Shiraz, McLaren Vale & Langhorne Creek

Miss Molly is juicy and rich. It is picked at about 15.5% alcohol, so it is quite ripe, full-flavoured and very generous(*1). Chill well before opening to ensure the best bubbles!(*9).

Aroma: Oak and berry(*9,10).
Palate: Delicate fresh plum and cherry are followed by cocoa and liquorice. Minimal sweetness is due to fermentation in 100% American oak barrels(*9,10).
Finish: Oak and vanilla add to the abundance of complex flavours(*9,10).

Spinifex ‘Louis’ Sparkling Shiraz NV, Barossa Valley

Spinifex offers premium artisan wines of the highest calibre. Purists will adore this 90-point (James Halliday(*6)) wine. Made from 107-year-old grapevines, this Shiraz is incredibly special(*7). 50 out of 155 dozen bottles have been disgorged, making this a unique and valuable addition to any cellar (up to 10 years)(*1,6).

Aroma: Spicy and savoury(*6,8).
Palate: Savoury – gamey. Complex with dark spices and rich berries(*6).
Finish: Quite dry thanks to notes of Brettanomyces(*6).
